POWER CORRUPTS AND....
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!
There has been a lot of talk about socialism and communism lately.There's a statistic floating
around that says that 70%(?) of millennial's believe socialism and communism are pretty good
forms of government.Is this statistic true????? If it is, that's a sad and shameful onus on the
total media:academia,main stream press,Hollywood,etc..
The past 40 or 50 years should show the evils of the evil communist empires.
Socialism has shown that it promises paradise,but ends up with a ruling elite and the
suffering masses.
The main problem with human beings is: How do you control power that it helps you and doesn't
hurt you.We see this in our own personal lives.Human beings with free will are capable of doing
tremendous good but we human beings can do tremendous harm or evil. AND,one may be a saint
one year and the next year be a sinner- the same with government,one administration or leader
may be good one year and an evil dictator the next year.
Our founding fathers recognized these basic human facts and devised a solution.They set up a
republican form of government and embedded it into a written constitution-we have a
constitutional republic.
How does the US Constitution deal with this problem of the use of power????
It defuses it several several ways:
-It sets up a federal national government with limited,explicit,expressed powers.
-It separates those powers between three branches of government with their checks and balances.
-It used the existing states as a principle of subsidiarity.
-It enacted the Bill of Rights for its' citizens to protect their freedoms and liberties.
-It specifically enacted the 10th Amendment:those powers not specifically given to the federal
government are reserved to the states and/or to the people.
Learning from the history of Europe,where the king was sovereign,the US Constitution made the
individual citizen sovereign by giving them the democratic process of voting on issues affecting
themselves and future generations.
