You suffer from a little known condition, little known because I just made it up, history-rose-glassness.
No nation goes to war over a principle; because someone’s evil. That’s how you convince the poor bastards, who have to do the fighting, to go. Not the government.
United States didn’t enter World War Two because of some genocide. They didn’t care. Not one bit. No nation at the time did.
In fact, Germany tried to expel Jews at first, but no other nation would take the refugees. So, Germans went with plan B. That’s why there are clauses in UN charters that say countries have to accept refugees.
USA at first only supported Britain financially and logistically. The cost? Britain has to dismantle their Empire and hand over the keys to the world’s oceans to the USA. Britain agreed, and to this day it is the biggest peaceful transfer of responsibility in history. Post-war negotiations cemented this deal during the Bretton Woods Conference. British fleets were replaced by USA ships. Pound Sterling by Dollar. International Monetary Fund started there as well.
They would never actively participate if Japan didn’t attack them. There was no logical reason for them to do so. Nothing to gain. Were the Germans to win in Europe (which was unlikely anyway, because Russia), they’d just sign new treaties with them.
As for the perceived “The USA is a force of Good” part of your question… Time Magazine named Hitler the man of the year in 1938. The same year Germany seized Austria and a part of Czechoslovakia. Four years after he made himself into a dictator and broke every international deal placed upon Germany after WW1. Five years after the persecution of Romani and Jew minorities started. Five years after Hitler had the first concentration camp built.
EDIT: Since it was brought up in the comments many times, I need to clarify this point.
I do realise Time Magazine didn’t pick Hitler because they admired him. The reason I bring this up is the indifference to what he was doing to people. They didn’t name him Man of the Year because of what he and Nazis were doing to their own population. Their reasoning was this: In 1938, Hitler was Chancellor of Germany. That year, Germany invaded Austria and added it to Germany. Hitler also got France, the United Kingdom, and Italy to sign the Munich agreement, which allowed Germany to take over the Sudetenland.
Time picks people who affected the American-centric view of the world. Nothing of the horrible things he did, or was about to do had no effect on the USA. They chose him because he strongarmed the Brits and the French into giving up Sudeteland.
The Eugenics movement that’s so famous because of Nazis? Guess where it was the most popular… The good ol’ US of A. There were three conferences prior to WW2. Two of them held in USA.[1] There, the intelligence of the world discussed how to get rid of the idiots, the mentally ill, and the minorities.
It was supported by people like Graham Bell, Leonard Darwin (the son of Charles Darwin), Winston Churchill, H. G. Wells, G. B. Shaw, Hellen Keller, and Theodore Roosevelt.
This was brought up by defense during the Nuremberg trials. But the winners washed their hands over the entire affair and threw it all on Germany.
USA was in the same business like Germans, they just didn’t industrialise it.
During Tuskegee experiments they did syphilis trials on African-Americans. They told these men they are receiving free health care from the government.
They were sterilised(and not only them).
African-Americans were not allowed to go to school with white kids or ride buses. Or vote.
Even after voting was legalised, Police stood in front of the voting buildings and arrested any African-Americans brazen enough to try it on trumped up charges.
Japanese-Americans, citizens of the United States, had their “rights” stripped away and were locked up in concentration camps just because of their skin color. Order signed by Roosevelt.
Let’s not forget the Native Americans. Trail of Tears was the pinnacle of the biggest genocide in human history. The last drop.
The entire Manifest Destiny Era was just messed up.
Senator John C. Calhoun speech (in regards to anexation of all of Mexico) to Congress on January 4, 1848:
We have never dreamt of incorporating into our Union any but the Caucasian race—the free white race. To incorporate Mexico, would be the very first instance of the kind, of incorporating an Indian race; for more than half of the Mexicans are Indians, and the other is composed chiefly of mixed tribes. I protest against such a union as that! Ours, sir, is the Government of a white race.... We are anxious to force free government on all; and I see that it has been urged ... that it is the mission of this country to spread civil and religious liberty over all the world, and especially over this continent. It is a great mistake
Do you really think this nation cared about some minorities in Europe?

Am I happy the Allies won? Sure.
But you, and everyone like you, need to learn what the world was actually like. You’ve been lied to by omission.
