Yes, George Patton's 3rd Army had the best G-2 (Intel) in the ETO, Colonel Oscar Koch. He prepared a paper saying the Germans had assembled a large number of divisions behind their lines and they posed a threat to the Allied lines. Here is Wikis take: "On 9 December 1944, Koch famously warned Patton that intelligence indicators pointed to an imminent large-scale German offensive against the U.S. VIII Corps in the Ardennes. This warning was accepted by Patton and resulted in Third Army devising contingency plans to swiftly change the axis of their operations—plans which Patton rapidly exercised when the Germans attacked on December 16, 1944." Patton’s staff came up with three counter-attack plans and when Patton went to the 19 Dec 1944 meeting with Ike and others. Ike said how fast could he start, Patton replied as soon as I leave this meeting. That was his day and no other.

No other G2 noticed though a few were starting to suspect. Even Monty asked Ike if he could spend December in London with his son. Very little movement on the line. The Ardennes was covered by a green division and two exhausted divisions, since it was a quiet front. Even Koch on the day before Dec 16, said very little movement was noted.

Koch was later inducted into the Intelligence School Hall of Fame.
